Respected Sir,
Sub: Sanction and release of funds for developing the fishing harbor at Hejamadi  Kodi
                                   under the Centrally sponsored scheme.
*****
A fish landing Centre at Hejmadi Kodi in Udupi District comprising of a jetty and a auction hall has been established in 2004. This fish landing centre could not be fully utilized due to navigational difficulties. The mechanized fishing vessels are now compelled to use alternate fishing harbors.
A team headed by the then Principal Secretary, Dept of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, Govt of Karnataka and comprising of technical officers from CWPRS and other high ranking officers from the central and state governments held inspections and subsequent discussions resulting in deciding to propose a full fledged   fishing harbor at Hejamadi Kodi.
The hydrographic, topographic surveys, Sub – soil investigation, mathematical model studies and detailed alignment of breakwaters and reclamation zone were provided. The Central Institute of Coastal Engineering in consultation with Dept of Fisheries have designed a harbor layout for a fleet of around 1200 vessels.
The project when implemented will help in decongesting the fishing harbors at Mangalore and Malpe. It would also ease the inconvenience being caused to local mechanized vessels and improve the economic conditions of the fishermen in the surrounding 23 villages and give a boost to the Fisheries Development in the region.
Therefore I request upon your kind self to sanction of the proposed project at an estimated cost of Rs. 122.59 Cr under Centrally sponsored Scheme and release the 75% share of  the Central Government under the above mentioned scheme and oblige.
With Kind Regards,
